FAQs

What lessons do you have for snowboarding?

Group lessons of up to eight participants run on a regular basis. We can offer private lessons by arrangement. If you are between 10 and 16 years-old, why not try Holiday Snowboard Camp? You will learn a lot in a week! Minimum shoe size 1 (Adult) and height of 130cm or taller – phone for details.

How far in advance should I book?

As early as you can. In the winter we get very busy at Gloucester Ski & Snowboard Centre and our pricing reflects this. You may have to book several weeks in advance. Private lessons sell like hotcakes! Why not learn before Christmas and beat the rush!

What do I need to wear?

Every person that uses our slope must have a long sleeve top, trousers & gloves. 

I’ve not skied for years, what should I do?

If you do not feel confident to ski recreationally on your own, a private lesson at Gloucester Ski & Snowboard Centre should set you on the right track. If you are more confident, why not try out one of the coaching sessions: Wednesday morning coaching (ladies only), Wednesday evening coaching, or Friday morning coaching. We also offer weekend coaching for juniors to help them improve their snowplow turning and start to parallel ski! All participants must meet the recreational standard to go on to any coaching sessions.

When does it get busy?

Weekends and evenings in the winter can be pretty hectic. Sunday afternoons can get really busy.

It tends to be quieter early in the week, especially in the summertime. You also benefit from cheaper pricing.

I would like to ski parallel, how do I learn?

At Gloucester Ski & Snowboard Centre, our teaching philosophy is for you to learn sound techniques that help you through your whole skiing development. We recommend ongoing tuition – Wednesday evening and morning coaching sessions are ideal and great value for money. Private tuition is another option. Whatever you choose, “practice makes perfect”, so ongoing coaching helps prevent bad habits!

My children are under ten, what lessons can they have?

  • Family private lessons for all the family
  • Holiday Ski School which runs during school half terms
  • Polar Bears (Lessons for ages 6-10)
  • Snow Cubs (Lessons for ages 3-6)

It is advisable to have all participants of a similar ability for a group private lesson. Children can also join our Junior Development Club, provided they can already ski from the top of the Recreational Slope.

We teach skiing from age 3 upwards.

I’ve never skied before, what do you recommend?

We have a selection of group lessons aimed at different age ranges. Learn to Ski Packages offer great value in group lessons.

Private tuition is costlier but can give you a more intensive and personalised session.

Whatever lesson you go for, take them up well before your holiday to take advantage of early season pricing and to get your muscles conditioned.

Is equipment hire included in the prices?

Yes. Skis, snowboards, boots and helmets are all included in recreational and lesson prices.

If you want to use your own equipment, be aware that the slopes are abrasive, and we will not be held responsible for damage, however caused.

Do you do parties?

Yes we do. We can arrange a party for any occasion. For youngsters from age 4 check out our Tubing Parties. Or alternatively, book an hour’s skiing or snowboarding lesson, followed by food in the ‘Ski Lodge’. It is important that for skiing and snowboarding, all participants are of the same ability.

We also do laser tag parties at the centre which consists of one hour of Battle*Hill laser tag followed by food outdoors at Battle*Hill HQ!

What is there for the children in the holidays?

Holiday Ski School and Holiday Snowboard Camp. We also run private lessons and extra group lessons during holiday periods. Book early because they sell like hot cakes!

When are you open?

Check the opening times page, but basically, every day except Christmas Day and Boxing Day, unless a pre booked event or race day is on.

Are you open all year round?

Yes, and out of season can be an ideal time to get lots of space to yourself on the slopes. Occasionally maintenance may require the temporary closure of a slope, but we never close completely unless a pre booked event or race day is on. If you visit us during a quiet period, you may have the slope to yourself as well as benefiting from Low Season pricing!

Do you operate in all weathers?

Yes. It can be quite exciting skiing or snowboarding in the rain – the slopes will run very quickly, more like snow! Frosty nights in the winter can be a real buzz. And when it snows, we can’t keep people away! We would normally only close in the event of a thunderstorm directly overhead, if heavy winds render the ski-lifts inoperable, or if we have a private hire event. If you are unsure, give us a call!

What should I wear?

Artificial slopes are abrasive. Please wear long sleeves and trousers, and a pair of gloves. Do not wear your best clothes either, but aim for a casual loose-fitting look! In the summer it can be hot, so do not wear too many layers. Be prepared for sudden downpours! Remember your Responsibility Code.

Do you sell food and drink?

Yes. We can cater for your needs for a whole day. The ‘Ski Lodge’ is fully licenced and offers a wide range of hot and cold food and drink.

I want to try slalom skiing, what should I do?

We host some of the best clubs in the country. They each have their own styles, so you are best to come along and watch at first, and then decide which to join.

Western Counties race club runs on Mondays from 7pm-8:30pm and Gloucester race club runs on Thursdays 6:30pm – 8pm and Sundays 6pm – 8pm

Terms and Conditions:

1. General
1.1. The incorporation of the agreement bookings terms and conditions apply to the booking of any activities at Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited.
1.2. Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited’s registered address is 118 Burcott Road, Avonmouth, Bristol, BS11 8AD. (Company Number: 08079818)
1.3. The customer acknowledges the booking terms and conditions and that it contains important information regarding the participation in activities supplied by Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited, by the customer and any participant within their party. The customer shall ensure that members of the party of aware of and agree to be bound to this agreement.
1.4. Any variations to the bookings terms and conditions shall only be binding if agreed in writing by Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited.
1.5. Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited reserves the right to make changes to the services and/or activities that may be available for whatever reason.
1.6. All participants taking part in the activities must be of age as defined by Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited
1.7. Any participant using the facilities for Recreational Use must have a waiver signed before participating in the activities. If a participant is under the age of 16, an adult must sign it on their behalf.
1.8. Damage caused to the facilities, fixtures or fittings by any participants or their party accept liability to pay for such damage.
1.9. Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited does not accept any responsibility for the loss, theft or damage to participant’s property or belongings whilst in use of the facilities and in visitation of the site. Money and valuables are therefore not allowed to be left unattended. Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited provide lockers for a non-returnable 50p.

2. Payment
2.1. All bookings (except parties) must be paid for at the time of booking, using the rates as advertised by the company.
2.2. A deposit must be paid for all party bookings – this includes corporate bookings.
2.3. Receipts will be available to any customer at their request within 3 months of the activity taking place.
2.4. Payments are taken over the phone, via Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited’s website, or in person at the location of Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited. No payment will be taken via email.
2.5. If payment is not made before the activity, we reserve the right to cancel and amend booking times.
2.6. Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited can invoice group bookings if agreed to by the company.
2.7. Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited will charge an additional £2 for up to 4 vouchers sent through the post. An additional £2 will be added for every 4 vouchers purchased and sent through the post.
2.8. Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited accept cash, cheques (made out to Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited) for group bookings and credit/debit cards.
2.9. Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited accept all major credit and debit cards, except for American Express.
2.10. Payment is only accepted in Great British Pounds (GBP). We do not accept any other currency.

3. Cancelations
3.1. The customer is entitled to cancel their reservation at least 48 hours before their session takes place.
3.2. The customer is entitled to a full refund if they give 48 hours notice, or a rescheduled session.
3.3. Customers cancelling their reservation, without giving 48 hours notice will not be entitled to a refund or a rescheduled session.
3.4. Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited is entitled to cancel a booking at any time. In this event, the company will endeavour to contact the customer as soon as possible, and the customer shall be entitled to a full refund to the full amount paid in relation to the booking, or a rescheduled session.
3.5. All cancellations must be to Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited by email or telephone.

4. Personal Data
4.1. Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited will hold participants’ recreational waivers for 3 years
4.2. Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited will hold participants’ contact information for as long as the customer has an account
4.3. Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited will hold accident report forms for 3 years and only share them should a court order be apparent.
4.4. Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited will hold client’s service forms for 3 years
4.5. Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited will hold participants’ Battle Hill Disclaimer forms for 3 years. We will only share these should a court order be apparent.
4.6. Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited will hold customer’s Annual Lift Pass and Privilege Card Applications for 1 year until they’re expired.
4.7. Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited will destroy group kit lists after completions of lessons.
4.8. Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited will hold invoices for 6 years
4.9. Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited will hold gift vouchers for 2 years.
4.10. Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited hold Race Day Results for 1 year. These results will be shared with the teams of which includes Names and Age groups only.
4.11. Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited will hold Customer's complaints for 1 year.
4.12. Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited will hold Soicitor Letters and Court Documents for 6 years.
4.13. Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited will hold CCTV (general memory) for 3 weeks. Specific recordings relating to accidents and investigations are held for 3 years.
4.14. Gloucester Sport and Leisure Limited will hold videos and photos from out on the slope for up to 6 years, or as long as the marketing material is available in specific circumstances.
