What's my Snowboard Ability?

If you haven't snowboarded for a while, or you're looking for lessons and unsure where to start, this post will help you find the best lesson to get started on.

Use the information below as a tick-box exercise.

Snowboarding (Ages 10+)

Snowboard Level 1

  1. Introduction to equipment

  2. Safety

  3. I can skate in a straight line

  4. I can straight line down the hill

​

If you or your child can do all of these, then move onto level 2!

​

Snowboard Level 2:

I:

  1. Can sideslip on my heel edge

  2. Can sideslip on my toe edge

  3. Have been introduced to the button lift

​

If you or your child can do all of these, then move onto level 3!

​

Snowboard Level 3:

I:

  1. Can diagonal sideslip on my heel edge

  2. Can diagonal sideslip on my toe edge

  3. Can do a falling leaf on my heel edge

  4. Can do a falling leaf on my toe edge

  5. Can competently use the lift on my own.

If you or your child can do all of these, then move onto level 4!

​

Snowboard Level 4:​

I:

  1. Can consistently weight the front of the board

  2. Can comfortably enter the fall line on my toe edge

  3. Can comfortably enter the fall line on my heel edge

​

If you or your child can do all of these, then move onto level 5!

​

Snowboard Level 5:

I:

  1. Can comfortably exit the fall line on my toe edge

  2. Can comfortably exit the fall line on my heel edge

​

If you or your child can do all of these, then move onto level 6!

​

Snowboard Level 6:

I:

  1. Can make 'C' turns, toe to hell

  2. Can make 'C' turns, heel to toe

  3. Can perform linked turns

  4. Can adhere to the FIS & Responsibility codes

​

If you or your child can do all of these, then you're classed as a Recreational Snowboarder. Feel free to shred Mt Gloucester, or develop your skills further with coaching.
